Pretzel Fire Pit Mobile: Taking the Braai to the Bush

There’s something about sitting around a fire outdoors that just feels right. Add a good braai, a few mates and the smell of woodsmoke drifting through camp, and you’ve got the makings of a proper African outdoor experience.

At KhakiBush, we’ve been putting the Pretzel Fire Pit Mobile through its paces at our BraaiBoss Challenge events – and it has quickly become one of those pieces of kit we keep coming back to.

More Than Just a Fire Pit

The Pretzel Fire Pit Mobile is a clever bit of kit. It packs flat, weighs around 8kg and is made from 6mm high-strength aluminium, so it is solid enough for serious outdoor use without becoming a nightmare to transport. It also comes with a carrier bag that doubles as a log carrier.

But for us, it’s not really about the specifications.

It’s about what happens when you put a fire in the middle of camp.

On a chilly evening, it becomes the place everyone gravitates towards. Early morning? Get the fire going and make that first coffee while the camp slowly wakes up. And when it’s time to braai, it adds that extra bit of theatre that turns cooking outdoors into an experience.

Bringing the Braai to the Event

This is exactly why we use the Pretzel Fire Pit Mobile for our BraaiBoss Challenge.

BraaiBoss is about taking the traditional South African braai out of the backyard and putting it firmly into the outdoor environment. We want people to experience camp cooking, fire, creativity and good food – not just another version of balcony braaing.

The Pretzel Fire Pit fits that idea perfectly.

It looks good, feels robust and, importantly, is practical enough to pack up and move between events and camps. It gives us a proper fire base without taking up the space of a conventional built-in fire pit.

Built for the Outdoors

There’s something reassuring about kit that is designed to be used outdoors rather than simply looking the part.

Pretzel’s Fire Pit Mobile is locally designed and manufactured, flat-packing down to just 3cm high for transport. Once assembled, it measures 50cm x 50cm, giving you a decent-sized fire without needing a massive footprint.

Like any fire equipment, it needs to be treated with a bit of respect. The ground underneath gets seriously hot, so a suitable surface such as gravel, concrete or stone is recommended. The coating will also naturally show some wear over time as it experiences more fires.

For us, that’s part of the deal. Outdoor equipment should get used.

Our Verdict

We like kit that earns its place in the back of the vehicle, and the Pretzel Fire Pit Mobile has done exactly that.

Whether it’s keeping warm around camp, making an early morning coffee, adding some fire to a braai or creating the atmosphere for a BraaiBoss Challenge, this is a solid, practical piece of outdoor kit that we genuinely enjoy using.

One of the things we love about outdoor life is that the simplest moments are often the best – a fire, a coffee, a good meal and a few stories around the flames.

And that’s exactly where this fire pit belongs.
