Rich-Wins Firelighters: Small Tin, Big Fire
There’s something satisfying about getting a fire going simplistically, especially when you’re outdoors and you’ve got coffee or a braai on your mind. I recently got my hands on some Rich-Wins eco-friendly firelighters at the House and Garden Show, where we’re also using them as part of our BraaiBoss challenge, and I’ve been seriously impressed with how well these little firelighters work.
Small, Simple and Seriously Useful
One of the things I like about the Rich-Wins firelighters is just how compact and uncomplicated they are. You don’t need a handful of them to get things going – one little wax firelighter, with some decent tinder and kindling, is enough to get a fire started and give it the time it needs to catch properly.
The Rings of Fire are made from wax-coated cotton and are designed to burn for around six to seven minutes. They’re also water-resistant, odourless and made without paraffin or chemical accelerants.
That makes them particularly handy for anyone who spends time outdoors. Chuck a small pack into your vehicle, camping box or hiking pack and you've got enough fire starters for a good number of fires without taking up much space.
Tested Around the Campfire
I put mine to the test at Hazelmere Dam, where I had exactly the sort of outdoor day I enjoy – a bit of time outside, some coffee from ROX Coffee and, later on, a proper braai.
The firelighters made getting the fire going simple. With a little tinder and kindling, one was all I needed to get things burning nicely. And that's really what I want from a firelighter: light it, give it a chance to do its job and get on with enjoying the outdoors.

For me, that's where Rich-Wins makes sense. You don't necessarily need a complicated fire-starting system when you're heading into the bush. You need something small, reliable and easy to use.
Whether you're lighting the charcoal for a Saturday afternoon braai, getting a campfire going after a long day on the road or carrying a few essentials on a hike, having a compact firelighter tucked away is one of those little conveniences you appreciate when you need it.

The KhakiBush Verdict
After putting them through their paces, I really like these little firelighters. They're compact, simple and they work. That's pretty much all I want from something designed to start a fire.
The fact that you can keep a small pack in your vehicle and have enough firelighters for multiple outings is a big plus, while the Survival Tin takes that idea and turns it into a genuinely useful little piece of outdoor kit.
For braai lovers, campers, hikers and anyone who spends time around a fire, Rich-Wins is worth having in the kit. Sometimes the smallest bits of gear are the ones you end up appreciating the most.
And, of course, there's nothing quite like sitting next to a fire you've just got going yourself, coffee or braai in hand, with the South African bush stretching out around you.
